A Legacy of Craftsmanship
Dean is a third generation woodworker who learned his trade from his father, the late Alfred “Mickey” Richards. Dean would often work with his father on various projects both for themselves and for others, eventually going on to start Dean W. Richards Custom Woodworking in 1988. Since then Dean has been producing the best cabinetry, millwork, and furniture to be found on the North Shore, working with a number of great customers and architects over 38 years to combine tradition and skill to create unparalleled quality in woodworking.
Dean W. Richards Custom Woodworking has remained a family business for years, with Dean working on and off with his brother Dana for years and eventually training his sons, Nathan and Joshua who both work with him.
Consult
Oftentimes, we are brought onto the job by either the client themselves or through the contractor the client is working with. Our first step in our relationship is the consult. We want to get to know you as well as your needs so that we can figure out how best to serve you.
Design
We believe that a collaborative design process is the best way to ensure the client gets exactly what they desire. We will work with all parties involved in the project to design the perfect product that fulfills every one of the client’s wishes.
Build
Using a combination of traditional and modern techniques, we build cabinets and furniture that are meant to last. We’ve done numerous kitchens over the years that look like the day that they were installed, over fifteen years later.

FAMILY. BUSINESS.

DEAN W. RICHARDS
A third generation woodworker, Dean grew up in the trades, helping his father; Alfred, commonly called Mickey, with various projects in their small shop in the backyard or milling wood for projects in their basement shop. Some of Dean’s earliest memories are of him building cabinets and furniture with his father. They planned on starting a woodworking business together once Dean graduated from high-school and his Father retired, unfortunately Mickey passed away before they could accomplish that goal. Regardless Dean went forward with it, and started his business thirty two years ago.

NATHAN RICHARDS
Nate is Dean's eldest son and fourth generation woodworker. Nate works with Dean in the shop and helps him with running the shop. He attended Suffolk University as well as Wentworth Institute of Technology, taking classes in architecture and design as well as business management, graduating in 2017. Nate's primary role in the shop is shop-foreman. His other roles include working with architects and designers in a designer capacity, producing shop drawings as well as handling the in-house design work done in the shop.
