A Legacy of Craftsmanship
Dean is a third generation woodworker who learned his trade from his father, the late Alfred “Mickey” Richards. Dean would often work with his father on various projects both for themselves and for others, eventually going on to start Dean W. Richards Custom Woodworking in 1988. Since then Dean has been producing the best cabinetry, millwork, and furniture to be found on the North Shore, working with a number of great customers and architects over 38 years to combine tradition and skill to create unparalleled quality in woodworking.
Dean W. Richards Custom Woodworking has remained a family business for years, with Dean working on and off with his brother Dana for years and eventually training his oldest son, Nathan as a woodworker as well in addition to his youngest boy, Joshua

For four generations, woodworking has been more than a profession for our family—it's a tradition built on craftsmanship, dedication, and pride. Dean learned the trade alongside his father, Mickey, whose passion for fine woodworking inspired him from an early age. Dean founded the company more than 38 years ago, continuing the Richards' family's legacy of craftsmanship
Today, that tradition continues with Dean's eldest son, Nate, a fourth-generation woodworker. Combining hands-on craftsmanship with education in architecture, design, and business management, Nate serves as shop foreman, collaborating with architects and designers, creating shop drawings, and overseeing daily operations. Together, Dean and Nate blend generations of experience with thoughtful design to create exceptional custom woodworking that will be enjoyed for years to come.
